The German Historical Institute London Library has chosen Koha as its new Library Management System, to replace the previous Allegro-C system.
PTFS Europe has implemented the new system and will provide on-going hosting and support services to GHIL to ensure its success in supporting these collections into the future.

Koha Library Management System

With over 15,000 systems worldwide, Koha is one of the most widely used Library Management Systems (LMS) in the world. Koha is entirely web-based for both staff and public functions. This helps make the system light, easy to use, easy to deploy and easy to manage.

Koha’s impressive feature set continues to evolve and expand to meet the needs of its user base. It includes modules for circulation, cataloguing, acquisitions, serials, course reserves, user management, inter library loans, and more.

Christiane Swinbank, Jolanta Gambus, Helen Jones and Jana Remy (GHIL Library Team):

Migrating our data to a new LMS was quite a challenge, as we were coming from a German system where cataloguing rules are slightly different. PTFS was very accommodating in trying to adapt Koha to some of the vagaries of our previous system. They provided excellent consultation beforehand and came on site to give comprehensive training. Staff have been happy to provide further advice on using Koha, helping us to map our workflows from the old system to the new. We now look forward to using Koha to enable our readers to find their research materials more easily, and are excited about all the new options provided, particularly around our growing collection of eResources.

Fiona Borthwick, Head of Sales and Account Management at PTFS Europe:

We are delighted to welcome GHIL as a customer and they join a growing community of specialist libraries within our customer base. GHIL had used the same library system for over 20 years so it was quite a change for them to move to something new. Their previous system was an open source solution and they were keen to continue on this path and could see how the Koha open source LMS would be a valuable addition to their library service. This was an interesting and fun implementation project and it was a delight to visit the library and see the wonderful collection.
